Dangerous Intersections

Do you travel on these roads?

The following table, from the Traffic Engineering Department of the City of Fort Wayne, shows some of the most dangerous intersections in the city, using the most recent data (2004). New data will be issued later this summer.

The most relevant number is the Rate per Million Vehicles (RMV). This figure shows the rate of accidents relative to the traffic at the intersection. This shows you how accident-prone an intersection is. The raw number of accidents is a bit less relevant, because some high-traffic intersections will have more crashes just by virtue of the high volume of traffic. On the other hand, the RMV shows how many accidents happen for every million vehicles that pass through the intersection in a year, which is a more meaningful number.
